Saving Solar Net Metering

Net metering is how people and companies with solar panels make money from the electricity they provide to the grid. The rules have been changed over the years by the Public Service Commission, probably with influence from utilities and/or fossil fuel companies. Now, they're trying to get rid of it altogether, greatly slowing down solar power development in New York. Some of my friends in the solar industry think losing net metering is a done deal. Not yet it ain't! The State Senate was involved in adding commercial net metering back in 2008, thanks to your support, so they clearly have some influence in this. Go to www.nysenate.gov. There is some confusion about whether net meters and smartmeters are the same thing. They are not. The problems with smartmeters have nothing at all to do with net metering or solar energy. Call your state senators and tell them to protect solar net metering.
